A Place of possibilities

Design process is thinking process and the process adopted must generate creative thinking. Creative thinking involves visualization which is an ability and skill to convert vision in to visuals. Element of creativity can be nurtured if creative stimulus is introduced and the technique of problem solving is explained. Design process requires many skills. Perhaps the most important is the ability to sketch and annotate a conceptual design. The abstraction is a technique adopted by artists from historical times to bring out the aesthetics of the subject. Abstraction is the process of taking away or removing characteristics from something in order to reduce it to a set of essential characteristics.
In this assignment, students used pieces of an old typewriter to make an unconventional physical model and used abstraction, iteration, and drawing techniques as mediums to create imaginative, surreal, utopian, dystopian, and futuristic spaces. They create unconventional spaces through the process of deconstructing and reconstructing a type writer to explore the spatial quality by out of the box thinking.
This is a very abstract experimental exercise in creating and seeing spaces from different lenses. With more freedom and not being limited to the specific site or predefined function students tried to understand a system and the tectonic relationship between parts and wholes. With physical model and abstract drawings, they explored the relationship between structure, space, program, and form. Students used the Manual of Section book for this assignment and try to select 5 sections and create spaces using parts of the typewriter that somehow inspired from those sections.
