In our digital era, new technologies have fundamentally transformed the way in which designers approach building design with a shift in emphasis from form to performance, from structure to envelope. These projects focus on adaptive structures for responsive spaces. Here we seek to develop new methods of architectural design by using information-based toolsets and the integration of new tools in communication, advanced analysis of human factors, and innovation in technologies and materials science.
By use of cutting-edge software and technologies such as Grasshopper, Firefly, Dynamo, Python scripting, sensors, Arduino microcontrollers, Shape Memory Alloy, etc. these projects respond to their environment and peoples around them. In these experimental projects, we were observing how built environments can gradually morph based on various environmental and user inputs. In the realm of environmental and social responsive buildings, biology, and the virtual world, these projects articulate the conceptual paradigm for the development of adaptive buildings by inspiring from biology.
