2020

In this studio we are exploring the role of architecture in culture and society by designing a cultural center. The results of the empirical research indicate that culture centers are important for local communities as a venue of organizing their leisure, providing opportunities for self-expression, initiatives and cultural education. At the municipal level the culture center may realize its functions and tasks, promote vitality of local community, initiatives and, thus, contribute to the cultural education. In this studio, we will take initiative to improve our society by designing a cultural center as a mixed-use multi-functional center that can serve better our communities.

In this Assignment, students design a cultural center in Seattle International District. They designed 25,000sqft / 30,000sqft building (min/max) with 5,000sf / 7,500sf exterior commons areas (min/max) as mixed-use multi-functional Multi-floor building.
